Documents ink is used for the production of documents and made for use on official documents. The series is pH-neutral, resistant to tampering form heat and solvents as well as permanent and light resistant.

De Atramentis® by Jansen presents an extensive list of bottled ink colors for your review. This exclusive handmade ink is suitable for all fountain pens. The ink is produced on the basis of latest ink technologies and according to current regulations of the European Union.

De Atramentis® is a small family business, headed by Dr Jansen who, unfortunately, passed in 2025. He became passionate about inks after inheriting a family treasure in the form of a 17th century ancestor’s Pharmacist’s book detailing how to create inks. After four years of testing, the first inks were produced in 1995 with several hundred inks now in the range and all still handmade.

This is premium handmade bottled ink at its finest.

Bottles will have labels in English.

Bottles are 45 ml glass bottles.

It is widely celebrated by artists, calligraphers, & professionals for its total water resistance and deep, non-reflective black color.

True Permanent Black: Dries to a crisp, solid black matte finish with absolutely no shading or sheen.

Archival Quality: Formulated to be completely waterproof, lightfast, fade-resistant, and pH-neutral. It will not move or bleed even when exposed to water, heavy watercolor washes, or alcohol markers.

Wet, Smooth Flow: Known for excellent lubrication, providing an exceptionally smooth writing experience even in ultra-fine or extra-fine nibs

Users frequently compare Archive Black to its sibling, De Atramentis Document Black. While both share identical waterproof performance, they have subtle differences:

1] Certification: Document Black is certified under strict ISO 12757-2 standards for official government and legal document use. Archive Black is built to the same high performance but lacks the explicit legal administrative stamp.

2]Tone & Flow: Reviewers often note that Archive Black has a slightly warmer undertone & offers a touch more lubrication/wetness through fine nibs than Document Black.

3]Prevent Clogging: Do not let the ink dry out inside your fountain pen. Flush your pen with water every 2 to 4 weeks.

4]Paper Performance: It behaves remarkably well on fountain-pen-friendly papers like Rhodia & Tomoe River without feathering, though it has a longer dry time (often 60+ seconds) due to its wet consistency.
